Many visitors know about Taipei’s famous night markets. These gathering of hawkers and stalls offer some of the best food and snacks, tantalizing the taste buds of locals and international tourists alike. For some, it is also a place to experience the hospitality and friendliness of the local populace.
To promote these great tourist attractions, Taipei City Government’s Department of Economic Development and Market Administration Office is holding the 2012 Taipei Night Market Food Fest between May 7 and July 1.
According to the organizers, the two-month-long festival will spotlight one night market during each weekend: Raohe Street Night Market (May 12 – 13), Linjiang Street Night Market (May 19 – 20), Huaxi Street Night Market (May 26 – 27), Guangzhou Street Night Market (June 2 – 3), Liaoning Street Night Market (June 9 – 10), Yansan Night Market (June 16 – 17), Dalong Street Night Market (June 23 – 24), and Ningxia Street Night Market (June 30 – July 1).
Activity 1: Night Market Monopoly
Between May 7 and July 1, customers who have purchased products (regardless of price) at any of the designated stores located at the eight spotlighted night markets will receive a stamp. Those collecting 30 stamps can exchange them for a NT$150 coupon; those collecting 60 stamps can exchange them for a NT$300 coupon, and so on. The first 10 individuals to collect all 101 stamps and register with the organizers will receive a trophy, a limited edition Night Market Monopoly game, and a voucher for a special banquet at Ningxia Street Night Market during the award ceremony on July 7. Kids who color the stamp rally map can collect a small souvenir at the information booth of the featured night market of the week.
Activity 2: Scratch Card Fun
During the festival period, those spending NT$100 or more at designated shops or stalls will receive a free scratch card (1 card per purchase). Prizes include night market coupons, free souvenirs, or raffle code. Those obtaining raffle codes can enter them for a chance at winning a tobe m’car. There is only a limited number of scratch cards, so get them while supplies last!
Activity 3: Web Coupon Frenzy
Between May 7 and July 1, the eight featured night markets will take turns offering special discount coupons online. Interested customers can check out the newest deals at the activity website every Monday during the festival period. These coupons (either printed online or obtained from fliers) can be used at the designated stores during the valid period listed. A single coupon can only be exchanged once. The discounted merchandises are limited, so buy them when supplies are still available.
Activity 4: Stamps for Coupons
Bring your night market stamp collection book to the spotlighted night market of the week (refer to the aforementioned list for dates) to receive a free memorial stamp. With this special stamp, drop by the information booth at the featured night market during the activity weekend to exchange it for a NT50 discount coupon. Coupon queues begin at 7 PM, while trade-in is accepted starting 7:30 PM. A total of 101 coupons are given away each day. An individual can receive a maximum of one coupon each day.
